Mammy Pancake

The egg waffle (鷄蛋仔) is an extremely popular Hong Kong style street food. It is made from a sweet egg batter poured into a special pan that molds the waffle into its special shape.

Mammy Pancake

This store is known throughout Hong Kong for its amazing egg waffles – some say that it is indeed one of the best. Mammy Pancake is a Michelin star street food store (which I had not realized until I was there) and offers a variety of different egg waffles and other pancake-like Hong Kong street foods.

Mammy Pancake is a chain store, with different stores located in HK – such as in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, and Mong Kok. The one I went to was in Tsuen Wan, and though there weren’t as many people when I first went there, in a few minutes, more and more people started to line up and a long line formed.

Menu

The egg waffle was crispy golden on the outside and chewy and soft inside. The flavor of it was phenomenal, with just the right amount of sweetness that isn’t too overpowering. The unforgettable taste of these egg waffles will surely make you want to go back for more. Depending if you want to get an original flavor egg waffle or another flavor of it, the price would be from around 20-55HKD.

How do you get there?

If you’re taking the MTR, take it to the Tsuen Wan MTR station. Exit from the A1 exit and it should be around a 4 minute’s walk from there. If you’ve seen my blog post, “Taste Food Limited“, the route is pretty similar.

If you take the taxi, tell the taxi driver to go to Lo Tak Court and they will most likely drop you off at an open-spaced car park. From there, it should be around a 1-2 minute walk. The shop is just next to a bakery (which is next to the supermarket), so it should be easy to spot if you’re in the right place.

Is it worth it?

Egg Waffle

Yes, I think that it’s worth it. Many people are coming to these chain stores just to try these egg waffles. I think that the prices may not be the cheapest, but the egg waffles themselves are definitely the best in Hong Kong.
