Doufuhua (豆腐花, or tofu pudding) is a popular Chinese tofu dessert.
Usually made from soft tofu, the tofu pudding is also commonly eaten with yellow sugar and ginger water. They are eaten as desserts in Hong Kong, but in other places in China, other variations of tofu pudding could be paired with savory seasonings – turning it to a part of a meal.
The Zan Wo Bean Products is a street store on 6 Tsuen Hing Path. It is an extremely popular store, usually with long lines of people waiting just to order one bowl of their favorite dessert.
Their business is located in a busy, popular gathering place in Tsuen Wan. Along the street are other street stores that sell their own food, from desserts to street food (like fish balls, siu mai, etc.). Though some other stores do sell tofu pudding, the one at Zan Wo Bean Products is exceptional and one of the best I’ve tasted. The tofu pudding at this store is fresh and has a perfect balance of the soft tofu and the sweetness of the sugar, and is sold either hot or cold.
Though I only tried the original tofu pudding, there are many other options that you could get – like black sesame soup (芝麻糊).
All of the desserts they sell are sold at an extremely low price, around 3-5HKD.
How do you get there?
If you go by the MTR, get off at the Tsuen Wan MTR station. Exit from the A1 exit and it should be around a 6 minute’s walk from there. If you’ve seen my blog post, “Taste Food Limited“, the route is pretty similar.
If you take the taxi, tell the taxi driver to go to Lo Tak Court and they will most likely drop you off at an open-spaced car park. From there, it should be around a 2-4 minute walk, and you should be able to follow a long line of people and find the store.
Is it worth it?
Yes, I do say it is worth it. Obviously, these desserts come at a very cheap price and taste amazing. I highly recommend going to this store to try it out, but if that can’t convince you, the long lines in front of the store will.
